The Three Kings of Toruń and Pamplona

For the second time Toruń 2016 invites everybody to take part in Epiphany organized according to Spanish tradition.

The main event — modeled on the Spanish celebration of this holiday — will be a colorful parade through the streets of Old Town presented by St. John (city’s patron) and will feature a concert of Spanish-Polish carols.

The celebrations will start on January 6th, 2010 at 3.30 p.m. by the statue of Nicolaus Copernicus. If you have an idea of your own participation in the parade on the occasion of Epiphany, please contact the main organizer of the event — Baj Pomorski Theatre (phone +48 056 652 24 24).

This holiday is called in Spanish “Los Reyes Magos”. It differs slightly from the Polish way of handling the day — the children in Spain receive... gifts! As befits a Catholic country this custom is deeply rooted, even though Santa Claus (Papa Noel in Spanish) is also giving gifts at Christmas. But it is Their Highnesses The Kings who are favourites of children, and 6 January is the most important day of the year for them.

The Three Kings (Three Wise Men, Three Magi) in the Christian tradition are the three wise men from the East, who went to Bethlehem to worship baby Jesus. They went out of town Kashan located in present Iran. The Bible does not mention their names or number and describes them as astrologers-sages from the East. In Western Christianity they are popularly called by the names of Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar, according to tradition which originated in the Middle Ages.

Szkoda, że nie ma zdjęć z toruńskiej PARADY. A może nie ma czym się chwalić? To po co cały ten szum w mediach?
